PlayStation or Xbox?

Growing up I remember playing and investing countless hours playing games like Mario Cart and Super Smash Bros on the Nintendo GameCube with my friends. Yes, it's arguable if Nintendo is still a part of the ‘Console War’, as most of the gamers have shifted towards consoles by PlayStation (Sony) or the Xbox (Microsoft).

Nintendo is still one of the most popular platforms, but gamers would rather buy the PS4 or the Xbox due to larger player bases, online play, streaming facilities and console exclusives.

A setup is considered as the 'Perfect Gaming Setup' depending on your actual needs. Remember, spending all your money to get the best technology is not the answer. As long as you are happy with your setup, it's considered as the Perfect Gaming Setup.

Let’s get into the matter at hand and finally answer your question, PlayStation or Xbox? For years every PlayStation and Xbox fanboy has been in a feud with one another, talking about which one is better. To better analyze the question, we are going to split the comparisons under 4 categories, price, games, console graphic quality and finally, the one most of you are interested in 'New Generation Consoles'.

Price

Price may by far be one of the most important categories to entry gamers and people who are on a strict budget. The current generation PlayStation and Xbox come in 2 different variations.

PS4: We got our first eyes on the PS4 in 2013, the increase in graphics and the power itself shocked us and triggered our excitement. This console is priced at $299.

PS4 Pro: A few years into the PS4 we laid our eyes on a variation of this console which easily outperformed the PS4 and provided us with the option to game in true 4K resolution. This console is priced at $399.

Xbox One S: In 2017, we laid our eyes on yet another masterpiece by Microsoft, providing us with current-generation gaming graphics at a decent price of $299.

Xbox One X: The X series was also released in 2017, this gaming console was priced at a higher rate due to its graphics. Competing with the PS4 Pro, this provided us with a 4K gaming experience, priced at $499.

Games

Games weigh differently depending on the type of gamer you are. If you’re buying a console to simply play games that are available on all platforms such as Fortnite, Call of Duty you would usually lean towards the Xbox a bit more.

I enjoy story-based games much more than any other game. Hence, looking at exclusive games, PlayStation is the winner. No console makes games better than PlayStation does. They don’t only have more exclusives, but the quality of the exclusive games is by far much better than any console.

The PS4 has approximately 1800 games with 500 exclusives, on the other, hand the Xbox has 1600 titles with only 250 exclusives. The main reason PS4 consoles are sold and wanted much more is due to their exclusives. Games like the Last of Us, Uncharted, God of war, Spiderman, etc leave you speechless, and the only question you are left with is, why did I finish these games so fast?

On the other hand, yes Xbox does have some great exclusives such as Halo, Forza, Gears of War but I can safely say that these games aren’t as engaging as most of the exclusives the PS4 has.

Console Graphics Quality

Gone are the days when you could only play games at 1080p, this generation of gaming allows players to game at native 4K resolution provided you have a 4K TV/ Monitor. You heard it right, both these consoles can run games on 4K resolution but there’s a catch.

Game resolution may not be an important category for most of the players, but if I am to invest my money into a console, I better be able to take out the most from it. If you have a 4K TV, both the Xbox One S and the Xbox One X will upscale the game to 4K resolution. Although, if the game itself is in native 4K, you need the Xbox One X to play true 4K.

The PS4 Pro being a more recent console provides you with the ability to play games at native 4K, although since the PS4 came all the way back in 2013, its tech does not support 4K quality.

If you are in the market for a more powerful console, then definitely the Xbox is a far between buck for your bank. It is undoubtedly the most powerful console in the market right now.

New Generation Consoles

Common, we can’t possibly end this blog not talking about the new generation consoles coming by Xbox and PlayStation. Both the consoles have announced to release their consoles in November 2020. I cant express my excitement enough!

Did you think that playing a game in 4K resolution was insane? We’ll let me tell you this, both the PS5 and the Xbox Series X have promised us 8K resolutions, high frame rates, powerful processors and SSD.

PS5 has already started pre-orders for their big titles such as Spiderman, Demon Souls, God Fall and the main one of all GOD OF WAR!!

To add to that, Xbox is not far behind, Microsoft has bought out Bethesda for 7.5 Billion dollars, being the most unexpected move, they could pull. Owning Bethesda would mean that Xbox now owns huge AAA titles like Doom, the evil within, Fallout, promising much more exclusive content in the future.

There you go, this is everything you'll need to answer the question of which is better, PlayStation or Xbox? Personally, I own a PlayStation, mostly because of the PlayStation exclusive it has. These are by far the best games I have ever played.

Although, quite a few of my friends have the Xbox and I have played a few of their exclusives. Some of them are really good too but they are way less in number. On the other hand, the power Xbox consoles provide outranks any other console in the market.

In conclusion, both the Xbox and the PlayStation are great consoles and their little competition just motivates them to provide better and better products in the future. Go through the blog carefully and make an informed decision on what factors matter the most to you.
