Console Or PC For Gaming?

Gaming has progressed drastically over the past 20 years; do you remember the days when people could barely afford a gaming setup in their homes? As a child, I couldn’t possibly imagine writing this blog and educating others on how they can game on countless platforms. Today we are going to talk about the biggest question when it comes to gaming, which one is better, a console or PC for gaming?

The beautiful factor about the modern era is that in-game graphics have drastically gone up and the prices have drastically gone down. The PlayStation 3 was launched in 2006 with a launch price of $599, and now the all new PlayStation 5 releasing on November 20th only costs about $399. The graphics on the PlayStation 5 are nerve-racking, imagine playing games at 4K resolution, ray tracing capped at 60 frames per second, yes you heard me right. The modern hardware exceeds expectations is about the deliver the best gaming experience there is. To add to that, PC gaming has always been more futuristic and much more powerful than consoles. They help you in your daily activities while giving you the best gaming experience possible.

Now let’s talk about the matter and answer the question; Console of PC for Gaming? To answer this, I am going to state the pros and cons of buying and owning a console and a PC.

Consoles

The main aim of any console is to provide the best gaming experience possible. Games on any console are meant to be on that console and are optimized to be played on that console. Giving you the best gaming experience possible.

Pros:

- Consoles usually cost lesser than building your own PC. As stated above, a brand-new PlayStation 5 is only $399, this is by far the cheapest way to game.

- Consoles are primarily made for gaming, giving you the utmost satisfaction and the best experience, you can achieve.

- Consoles may provide lesser frame rates, but the games are optimized perfectly, with the help of motion blur and other modern technology you would barely notice the low frame rate.

- Consoles have their exclusive AAA and indie games which cannot be played on any other platforms.

Cons:

- A monthly or a yearly subscription is required to game online with other people. This cost could be a burden if you are mainly focusing on competitive online games.

- Games usually cost more on consoles, a new game on the PlayStation 4 would cost about $79.99 and a new game on the PlayStation 5 would cost about $89.99.

- Current generation consoles are usually capped at 4K 30 Frames per second, but there are plans to push 4K 60 frames per second in the new generation consoles.

- Your hardware cannot be upgraded in a console; hence the whole consoles would have to be swapped as soon as another generation of consoles is announced.

Personal Computer (PC):

Now let’s shift towards a high-end gaming PC, although PC’s are available in Pre-Built forms, they are usually custom made. This would include handpicking every component of a PC and assembling it yourself. This doesn’t just give you the satisfaction of building your own PC but is also relatively cheaper than buying a Pre-Built.

From the experience of owning a PlayStation 4 and a gaming PC, I can safely say that my PC is something I use daily. The best part of owning a gaming PC is that it’s not only utilized for gaming but is also very versatile in daily tasks that a regular laptop can do. Making it much more versatile and value for your money.

Pros:

- Your system is customizable unlike consoles, every component of a PC can be changed proving to be more cost-efficient and long-lasting.

- About graphics, gaming PCs dominate any console to date, high-end PCs can easily push 4K resolution at 60 frames per second and depending on your monitor they can easily achieve 4k resolution at 120 Frames per second.

- Unlike consoles, a PC is much more versatile and can be used for anything such as video editing, streaming, etc.

- Although new games may cost the same, a lot of game libraries regularly provide sales even on newer games. You would be surprised how much money this can save you in the long run.

Cons

- Building your own PC costs more than buying a console.

- A gaming PC is a bit more complex than a console. Assembling it can sometimes be a pain and you might end up harming your components if you are not careful.

- If your PC is 3-5 years old, it may not provide top of the line 4k 60 FPS gaming anymore. As the years go by, games become more demanding.

- They are not portable, the components are so fragile that even a small bump could harm one of the components.

I own a gaming console and a gaming PC, if you are on a strict budget but are still looking to game, a gaming console is your best bet. Gaming has never been more affordable, with new generation gaming consoles starting with $399 (PS5) and $299 (XBOX Series S).

On the other hand, if you are looking for a device for gaming and daily activities, a gaming PC would be your best bet.

We would be discussing about gaming setups and price points in my upcoming blogs, so stay tuned!
