We have finally come towards the end of 2020 and this year has arguably been one of the best years for gamers. We witnessed a whole new generation of consoles, followed by some amazing games. This blog is going to talk about my personal Top 5 Games of 2020, and don’t worry, I’ll give you a brief idea of why you should play these games next. This year has been once again dominated by PlayStation exclusives. Luckily, we do have a times exclusive here that would appear on the Xbox and PC early 2021. One last neat trick, click on the images to get to the game trailers!
I couldn't talk about my top games of 2020 and not include Last of Us 2. Earlier this year we were able to witness one of the best games of the decade, Naughty Dog's Last of Us: Part II. Last of Us was one of the most beloved narrative style games of the past decade. The fans eagerly waited for a sequel, and needless to state, Naughty Dog knocked it out of the park again.
One of the best part of this game would be the character development, how Ellie (Ashley Johnson) goes down a dark path of revenge and loses herself. Joel (Troy Baker) once again knocked it out of the park by blowing our brains and breaking our hearts. Upon the completion of this game, I was broken, and it took me time to process the ending. This game arguably has one of the best gameplay mechanics, graphics, sound and needless to say but the story.

Ghost of Tsushima was hands down the best samurai game I have ever played. Sucker Punch entertainment started the PS4’s journey with one of the best exclusives ‘Infamous: Second Son’ in 2014. Now they have concluded PS4’s journey with Ghost of Tsushima.
Ghost of Tsushima portrays a story from the ancient samurai era, in which they were facing the Mongolian Invasion, on a small island called Tsushima. To beat this invasion a young man named Jin Sakai had to step up and take charge. Slowly deviating from the way of the samurai and shaping into the person Tsushima needed. This game truly makes you feel like a samurai while concentrating on ever little detail. The chirping of a bird, the direction of the wind and even a small fires have a huge relevance in the game. Sucker Punch used the environment to its fullest extent and delivered a beautiful game.

With the long-awaited launch of the PS5, PlayStation Studio and Bluepoint Games gave us a remake of a classic, Demon Souls. I couldn't imagine a better game to start with the new generation of consoles. With the power of the current generation consoles, Bluepoint Games was able to provide a unique experience to the player. The top-notch haptic feedback and adaptive triggers of the PS5 infused you into the gates of Boletaria. To add to that, playing a Soul’s game at 4k 60 is nothing short of a dream (Ignoring you PC players out there).
Demon Souls is definitely one of the best entry games for the Souls' franchise. Demon Souls is one of the easier games under this franchise. Providing the player a more balanced experience, enjoying the beauty and not smash your controller into the TV (That’s right, looking right at you Bloodborne). This game gives you a different kind of satisfaction upon beating a boss. I spent about 23 hours beating this game and I was pretty sad finishing it that quick.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons deserves its place under the top 5 games of 2020. I was convinced by my friends to buy this game, and needless to say, as soon as I started this game I was lost in the world. You start your journey on an island that you now own and it’s your responsibility to take care and create this island from the bottom up. Planting and watering your plants, hunting down rare insects and fishes to display in your museum pretty much takes up all your day. I put in about 155 hours into this game and could just achieve a 4-star island. Hopefully, someday I would get back to the game and get my 5 stars.
If you’re ever frustrated, bored or even angry, just hop onto animal crossing. The music, environment, your villagers would instantly calm you down. You unlock more features as you progress in the game and after a while, you can also invest in the ‘stock market’. That’s right, you heard me, Animal Crossing: New Horizons brings an all-new feature of trading turnips on Sundays. Once purchased, you need to look for islands with better turnip prices. This required you to manage your money well, which is indeed another great part of the game. It helps you budget your money and only buy things you require, providing you with real-life experiences.

Earlier this year Square Enix gave us a remake of one of the best games in the genre ‘Final Fantasy 7’. This is a timed exclusive for PlayStation users but is expected to come out for the PC and Xbox early 2021. This remake is straight up a great RPG that builds up the story for the remaining parts. The original game what came out in 1997 was divided into 3 parts. The best part is that just the first part took about 40 hours to beat, so we can expect there to be a total of 100-150 by the end of it.
Square Enix completely remodelled the original game and made it their own. Personally, this game has probably been one of the best combat experiences I have had. To add to that I loved the character building and how every interaction with each character was different. In my view, this is by far the best game developed by Square Enix. The game looked and sounded beautiful and truly set a standard for the upcoming games from Square Enix.
